Dr Elize Herselman is a Soil Scientist by training and spent 15 years in soil research with the Agricultural Research Council: Institute for Soil Climate and Water. During this time, the main focus of research was on baseline concentrations of trace metals in South African soils (PhD study), leaching of trace metals in soils, plant metal uptake and soil attenuation capacity.

The next 15 years was spent in environmental consulting (Golder Associates Africa) for various clients in the mining, manufacturing and oil and gas fields. During this time Elize gained experience in the fields of waste and sewage sludge classification and management, contaminated land assessments, environmental site assessments and human health risk assessments.
